FACT:
Each
day, 400 children under the age of 14 are too sick to attend school or
day care in the Roanoke Valley.
The
average child contracts 6 to 9 colds/viral illnesses each year.
Each
illness lasts 3 to 7 days.
Working
mothers miss between 5 and 29 days each year to care for sick children.
The Get Well
Center at Greenvale is especially designed for working parents on those
“runny-nose” or “yucky tummy” days that children
often have. So often, the concern for your child is swiftly followed by
the awful realization that you just can’t miss a day of work: an
important project, an out-of-town business trip, you've run out of sick
days... the complications are endless. If your child has a mild illness
that prevents him/her from attending his regular child care or school,
you can bring your child to the Get Well Center.
The Get Well Center provides a warm, comfortable environment filled with
appropriate toys, books, games, a VCR, and rest areas that make getting
better a less stressful experience.
The center is staffed by medical professionals including a Licensed Nurse
and child care specialists. A volunteer pediatrician consults with the
staff and provides free physicals to needy families on site and is available
in case of any concern or emergency.
The Get Well Center is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
for children six-weeks through 12 years of age. Use of the Get Well Center
is not limited to students in Greenvale’s well-child care classrooms
and is open to any family in the area that registers. Registration is
required prior to using the center to ensure that the nursing staff has
all necessary medical information to properly care for your child.
Peace of mind cost only a small annual registration fee (currently $25)
and a daily cost the day your child attends (currently $20 per day –
or based on income for Greenvale enrolled students). The Get Well Center
at Greenvale can be your family’s reliable plan when your child
is mildly ill and you have to work.
Call 540-342-4716 for more information or to make an appointment
to register your child for the Get Well Center.
